Our Teachers

Coach Russell will be working with kids of all ages ranging from Kindergarten through high school. He brings significant basketball coaching experience at the high school level, including 22 years at East Haven High School. During his tenure as the Girls Varsity Basketball Head Coach at East Haven, Coach Russell led his team to five SCC Division Championships, three SCC Tournament Championship appearances, and a Connecticut Class M State Championship in 2018, and was named the New Haven Register Area and State Coach of the Year in 2012 and 2016

Coach Russell brings a wealth of experience and knowledge of the game of basketball to the table, and also the innate ability to teach the game and to teach kids. Coach Russell is an educator at heart, having worked at East Haven High School since 1999, where he spent many years as a science teacher, and he currently serves as the Assistant Principal.

Coach Russell is a resident of Darien, where he is heavily involved in volunteering to coach youth sports in town. We are excited to bring more fun and competitive basketball offerings to town, and Coach Russell will be coaching clinics, offering individual and group workouts, and more. We are extremely lucky to have someone like Coach Russell joining our team, as he is not only a great coach and a terrific basketball mind, but also a phenomenal teacher, leader, and person.
